Protectors of Animal Welfare (PAW) is a 501c3 non-profit  No-Kill organization located in Fort Madison, IA. We run entirely on donations, memorials, fundraisers and small grants. Without your generous giving and continuous support, this shelter would not be here. Thank you in advance from all of us who work so hard to find "forever homes" for our four legged friends.

Your donations will go for new fencing in all our dog kennels throughout the facility, helping us complete a more efficient medical room, paying for medical expenses/veterinary care, finish updating with new electrical throughout the building, new dog houses, our jungle gyms for each cat room, as well as every day supplies and those unexpected every day pop ups.
We pride ourselves in doing our best to find the perfect companion not only for you, but also the perfect forever family for our animals.

Please understand that an animal in a shelter/rescue has already been given up at least once. While all of our animals are thoroughly evaluated, they are all different and will have their own quirks and issues. You must beprepared and committed to the animal and dealing with its issues. This shelter's intention is to place these animals in forever homes.
Microchipping allows you to provide your pet with a lifetime ID number. An ISO-compliant microchip contains a unique and unalterable identification number that is recognized in most countries around the world.
Microchipping is a reliable, permanent, one time service that helps give you peace of mind for your pet's lifetime, but it is nearly useless if the microchipped pet is not registered in a database such as PetLink. The microchip only contains an identification number; without accurate registration associated with the microchip number, a lost, microchipped animal that is scanned might not be returned to its owner.
